Match Report: Day Eight Delivers Comebacks, Penalties, and Pure Drama

Day eight of the 2026 Bet9ja Foundation Ex-Internationals Cup did not just deliver drama. It delivered the kind of football that reminds you why this sport means so much.
At Legacy Pitch, FC Agbai and FC Okpara produced one of the ties of the tournament. Agbai had that precious 1-0 first-leg lead and added to it quickly — but Okpara’s response was fierce. Alo Deji converted a penalty in the 29th minute. Irekanmi Chris then manoeuvred past Habeeb Azeez before halftime to put Okpara ahead. Deji made it 3-1 in the 46th minute. Agbai were on the edge. But Lateef Kazeem found the net in the 78th minute — 2-3 on the day, 3-3 on aggregate. Penalties. And in the shootout, Okpara held firm, winning 4-2 to progress.
The drama barely subsided before FC Dominic and FC Akanni staged their own thriller at the same venue. Akanni came in with a 1-0 first-leg lead, and Hanif Sanusi extended it within five minutes of kick-off. Dominic were three goals from going through. Olusegun Feranmi pulled one back with a composed penalty. Then Orize David — spotting the goalkeeper off his line — sprinted through just seconds into the second half to make it 2-1, levelling the aggregate. The shootout went to 6-5. Dominic, somehow, went through.
At Eleja Primary School, FC Oloyede beat FC Agali 3-1, levelling the aggregate at 4-4. Oloyede then won the shootout 4-1 with a performance from the spot that was almost absurdly composed.
And at Surulere, Obafemi FC demolished FC Atine 5-1 — Savio Idezi, Fawaz Yusuf, Yusuf Olatunji, Fuad Ibrahim, and Waris Olaoye all on the scoresheet in a performance that announced Obafemi as genuine contenders.
