LSFA Celebrates Successful GSL Cup as Grassroots Football Continues to Thrive in Lagos

The Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) has congratulated 36 Lion FC on emerging champions of the GSL Cup, following an exciting four-day youth football tournament that showcased the immense potential of grassroots football in Lagos.

The competition served as a valuable platform for young footballers to demonstrate their abilities while promoting unity, healthy competition, and sportsmanship among participating teams. Beyond the results on the pitch, the tournament once again highlighted the depth of football talent within Lagos State.

Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Hajji Gafar Liameed, commended the organizers for delivering a successful competition and reiterated the Association’s unwavering commitment to nurturing young footballers.

According to the LSFA Chairman, initiatives such as the GSL Cup continue to open new opportunities for talented players by exposing them to professional scouts and international football pathways.

The Association also expressed appreciation to Filip Stanojevic, Dusan Rancic, and Babatunde Adedokun for their contributions to the scouting and player selection process. Their involvement helped strengthen the connection between grassroots football and international opportunities, giving outstanding players another avenue to pursue their football careers.

LSFA further acknowledged Askhat Sagitzhanuly Kalzhanov, President of the Aktobe Regional Football Association of Kazakhstan, for his role in the collaboration. The engagement enabled local coaches to benefit from modern coaching methods and practical football development insights that will positively impact grassroots football across Lagos State.

With more than 2,000 football academies, 10 professional clubs, and countless aspiring footballers, Lagos remains one of Nigeria’s leading football hubs. Through strategic partnerships and sustained investment in youth football, the Lagos State Football Association continues to build stronger pathways that connect grassroots football with both local and international opportunities.

While 36 Lion FC lifted the championship trophy, the tournament’s greatest achievement lies in its contribution to player development, talent identification, and the continued growth of football across Lagos State.
